At a conscious level you know this behaviour is doing you no favours, however, at a subconscious level a saboteur is at work.  When there is conflict between the conscious and subconscious mind, the reality is the subconscious mind always wins.


Your subconscious mind is the seat of all your habits, emotions, feelings automatic bodily functions and the storehouse for all the events that ever happened to you.  It is likely that it is operating from a place of attaching the event of getting sweets and chocolate with feelings of being loved and receiving attention. Alternatively, we try to avoid feeling guilty for not cleaning our plate because of all the starving children in Africa. Either way our emotions are running the show.
