After a very challenging last week (my computer giving up the ghost and I backed up a shortcut of my desktop files yes that means there was nothing there – another ghost annoyed or what??), this week was positively uplifting. Which of course indicates life is like the ocean the waves rise and fall, now when we become a surfer we start to enjoy rather than fear those waves. The only thing that really has changes is our perception, the waves are still the waves.

The wonderful  thing about stuff not going to plan, or more to the point  not planned, for  truth be told if I had planned and taken action my computer it wouldn’t have been in such a mess!   The thing is the situation provided me with lots of opportunities to learn, not only about computers but about myself and my emotions.

There were times when my patience were under severe pressure, I  found I had to pull myself aside and have a little word with myself, “ Doreen you can choose to stick with the task, ask for help, have a break or throw the dam machine out the door and stamp on it with anger!!!”. After a few deep breaths (always a good idea) having done my best (with the knowledge and skills I had at the time), I called for help, which is though for us independent types!!  Then I remembered a teacher telling me once, asking for help is not a sign of weakness, rather an act of kindness which allows another to have an opportunity to shine.  Perception is everything that felt much better.

There was a point after spending two hours  and eventually  getting into my business e-mail (Google doesn’t allow you to have two accounts open at the same time, I know this now)  I found myself pulled between the desire to cry (for the two hours lost) or sing (for the breakthrough).  I chose to sing.  It felt so empowering to feel I had the choice.

The truth is of course we always have a choice on how we react to life’s stuff however we don’t always feel we have a choice.  Stress is one of the biggest factors these days in taking away our feeling of choice.  There may be all kinds of beliefs driving that stress at auto pilot level.  What does your inner critic say to you which is dis-empowering you?
